Does drinking water help acne?



Many people believe that drinking water helps fight acne. Is this true or is it just another myth? Read on to find out the real answer.

Does drinking water help acne?
We have been told even during our grade school days that drinking water (at least 8 glasses a day) is important. Three fourths of our body is made up of water. We need to maintain this amount so we don’t suffer from the consequences brought about by dehydration. But other than keeping us hydrated, drinking more water has been linked to promoting skin health. Some people think that drinking water to aid acne is just a cliché. But actually, it is true.

One of the major roles of water in the body is to eliminate toxins and wastes by improving kidney function. In effect, said organs will be able to properly wash away the harmful compounds in the blood.You might think – what is the connection between all these things and acne?

How does water help treat acne?
Here’s the thing. Acne is usually caused by dirt, germs and bacteria that irritate the skin. When the toxins in the body cannot go out, they’ll find their way anywhere, even through the skin pores. As a result, pimple and acne come out. Another reason why drinking water is good for acne is that it keeps the skin hydrated and healthy. Basically, our skin cells need water too. When the skin is dry, the cells on its surface are most likely to be damaged. As this happens, it becomes more vulnerable to bacteria and toxins, triggering the onset of acne.

Water also helps in the dissolution of fats. You may not know it but excessive fats in the body can also lead to pimples and acne. Fats that have been stored in the body for so long trap the toxins from going out. Furthermore, weight gain triggers the production of sebum. When there’s too much of this oil, the skin pores get larger and irritation due to dirt and bacteria are more likely to happen.

Are you fed up with drinking plain water?
We can’t help it but sometimes, we don’t feel like drinking water even though we know how important it is. It’s natural because are taste buds are a bit choosy. We always want something tasty, sweet and delicious. Well, it’s not a big problem. There are some things you can do to replenish the lost fluids in your body. Aside from water, there are fluids and beverages that can keep you hydrated. During those times that you feel so fed up with water, here are some ways to you might find useful:

· Prepare some refreshing lemonade! To add some twist on your usual glass of water, add some fresh lemon extract. It will not only keep you hydrated by totally refreshed as well.
· Drink freshly brewed tea. Make sure to choose the decaffeinated one to prevent water loss.
· Put some ice on your water. Cold water even without added flavor tastes good.

Keeping track of your daily water intake is a good practice. Other than helping you fight acne, it can also make the skin all over you body flawless and beautiful. Furthermore, it also improves your general health and wellbeing.
